Level 1 Technician

Full Job Description

DNA Communications is looking for an individual who is motivated to help our customers solve the core issues with connectivity to the world. You will be assisting network engineers with customer premise installation, testing, diagnostics and validation of fiber, DSL, and VOIP systems, as well as working on larger infrastructure projects where we design and build connectivity solutions to meet wide-ranging customer requirements.

This includes splicing/terminating fiber optic equipment, the configuration of network equipment, setup of VOIP PBXs, wiring and diagnosing copper connectivity (DSL, CAT 5/6), documenting work, working with engineering to diagnose customer issues, organization of work areas, and other activities as assigned. Do we expect you to know how to configure Dasan Zhone ONTs, diagnose a bonded VDSL connection, set up a DID on MetaSwitch, or run an OTDR? No, we are more than willing to train you, but it will help you know these terms if you have experience with any of those technologies or with 3CX, Comtrend, Ubiquiti Unifi, EXFO, or general technical support/installation of broadband services that will be a big bonus in our book.

Starting out, you will be brought on to assist with multiple daily and longer-term tasks. Day to day will be installing and maintaining DSL/Fiber internet connectivity for residential and small business customers in the Dekalb, Sycamore, Rochelle, Genoa, Malta, and neighboring areas. As you grow in experience, you will be moved into a full technician role as you demonstrate your training on our equipment/network. You will provide on-site end-user support, telecom installation, programming, maintenance, and repairs to our DSL and fiber infrastructure and phone clients. Longer-term tasks will be project/skill oriented, relating primarily to fiber buildout in the greater Illinois area.

The more interested you are in learning, the greater the opportunities there will be for your role to expand. You will have the chance to gain experience with a wide assortment of networking technologies, from home networking all the way to carrier services. You will be working in a team of people who have experience in teaching and love to do so.
